Team Thailand and Gatlinburg
This weekend was the Gatlingburg retreat. CCFs from all over came for the conference. It was incredible! Right after I got settled in, Lindsey, the Globalscope coordinator, gave me the list of exchange students to Thailand for this summer and fall. From Georgia Tech it’ll be Stephanie, Jesse and I. Stephanie and I were immediately running around looking for other exhange students as well as telling everyone how excited we were. There are 3 other exchange students - Preston and Travis from Georgia Southern, and Will from Auburn. We got to meet with the Coleys, the missionaries, as well. There will also be two female interns over the summer and one that will be there from June-February, I believe. It’s going to be so amazing!
In 3 months, I will be on the other side of the world.
Another highlight of the trip was this morning’s breakfast/communion. We had these little sealed cups of grape juice that became toys immediately. It started with Adam and Justin C. trying to flip them and make them land facing up, but then Justin S. began catapulting them across the table, 3-4 feet in the air. In between fits of uncontrollable laughter these stood out:
“That is JESUS that you are CATAPULTING across the table!!!”
“It’s a Jesus catapult!”
“Fly, Jesus! Fly!”
“We’re going to go to hell, aren’t we?”
“It’s a good thing that God forgives us - a lot.”
“See if you can catapult it into these pitchers.”
Mine ended up in my coffee cup. Everyone else’s ended up all over the place. We’re not irreverent, and we’re not bad kids, but it was two hours until communion at that point - it was totally still grape juice…
The film festival was wonderful! Dean, Matt, Chandler, and Ryan won it! I really, truly loved Auburn’s claymation one. Seriously, I could watch it all day long. There’s too much to explain, but think: clay Mario, Gumby, Carebear, the Sprite Dot, Larry and Bob, and others fighting with the voices from Monty Python, The Princess Bride, Scarface, and more. It was amazing.
